When you think of doing a data backup, you are plausibly apprehensive about how much bandwidth you will use and just how long the backup will take.  Well there is a likelihood that you won’t have to worry about speed and bandwidth in the not too distant future – especially with the eagerly awaited dawn of 5G.

What do you think of when you hear the term “5G”?

Most people simply think that 5G will speed up their smartphone connection and while it will do exactly that, there’s a great deal more to 5G than meets the eye.  With 5G set to become a service available to all by the turn of the decade, more and more people are interested in what it will have to offer and how it can change our already super-connected lives.

Nokia already has great plans for 5G, presenting their forecasts for it at the Mobile World Congress which was held from 22nd to 25th of February in Barcelona.  Some of the forecasts that Nokia presented included the following:

  • Cars will be safer to drive
  • Instant replay will become even more instant
  • Wireless robots will be able to assist doctors to perform surgery
  • Connectivity will be at least 1000 times faster than current 4G connections

Industry professionals have been discussing what they expect from 5G and so far, the following expectations have emerged:

  • A 5G connection will have a download speed of 30G per second
  • More mobile users will be able to connect to a network simultaneously.
  • Video multi-casting with a resolution that is up to 4 times better than current HD
  • Self driving cars will be able to communicate and respond better and quicker
  • Virtual reality will become even more realistic

It seems that great things can be achieved with 5G, not just quicker online data backups!  We’d love to know what you think the impact of 5G would be on your business and how it will personally change your life – share your thoughts and opinions!
