The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which ran from the 9th to the 12th of January 2018, was a major success. The show is a global gathering place for all latest tech enthusiasts and industry leaders, and has been held annually for the past 50 years. The CES features breakthrough technologies and provides innovators and creators with a platform where they can introduce their concepts and prototypes to the right people.
What New Products Emerged at This Year’s CES?
It’s not surprising to find some of the most unheard of and advanced gadgets, robots and toys, presented at CES – and this year was certainly no different. Here are just a few of the wildest gadgets to emerge from the Consumer Electronics Show 2018.
Kolibree’s Magic Toothbrush
Augmented reality, kids and tooth hygiene – this gadget is a blessing for parents when it comes to tooth brushing time. Kids play a game (with their smartphone – the toothbrush acts as a controller) which makes teeth brushing fun!
Self-Driving Suitcases
Forward X is a company endeavouring to make travel simpler and easier with a luggage bag that follows the owner around. Built in 4×4, cameras and sensors make sure that the bag can manoeuvre itself out of tricky situations and can also avoid obstacles and remain upright, even when traveling over bumpy terrain. An alarm system will alert the owner if something should go wrong or if they get too far ahead of their luggage.
Laundry Folding Machines
The tedious chore of folding laundry could be a thing of the past with the new FoldiMate. As each item of clothing is fed into the machine, it gets folded and deposited in the basket below. Now if only it could iron the clothing at the same time!
Robots That Provide Entertainment & Security
The Keecker is a voice enabled robot that acts as a movie projector for your personal entertainment. Once you leave the home, the Keecker will keep a beady eye on your belongings whilst you are out and about. The footage can be viewed from the Keecker’s point of view much like a CCTV camera.
The AI Cat Toy
The Mousr is a cat toy that works with artificial intelligence to run around until it attracts the attention of the cat. Once the cat gives chase and captures the toy, it will behave in the same manner as a normal mouse would. This toy will be available to the market from March 2018 already! Smart toys for cats – whatever next…
Smart Rocking Beds
If you struggle to fall asleep, then this smart bed is for you. The Rocking Bed, created by Mark Russell, is designed to sway back and forth mimicking the motion of the ocean to rock you sleep. The bed will be made with a timer so that sleepers can set the rocking motion to switch off at a certain time.
The Autonomous Tennis Ball Collecting Robot
The Tennibot self-driving ball collector is designed to pick up to 80 tennis balls on either clay or hard courts. The bot is controlled with an app and is just like a Roomba (the automated vacuum cleaner) … but for the tennis court. While it won’t be replacing the deft speed of the ballboys and ballgirls at Wimbledon, the Tennibot will certainly make life easier during training sessions.
The Robot Mannequin
A robotic mannequin from Euveka is set to change the way people shop! Once installed, consumers will be able to see how an outfit looks on their specific body type. The mannequin is designed to adjust its proportions and size so that it can fit clothes designed for any and all body types.
Robots For Kids & The Elderly
AvatarMinds is releasing a robot with a friendly disposition. It can sing and dance, it can educate as a classroom assistant, and it can even act as a companion for the elderly. The concept of this robot is bound to grab the attention of many companies across the globe.
