Latest Tech from CES 2016

13 Jan

Almost a week before the CES 2016 tradeshow, enthusiasm was so high that tech firms were already posting Youtube videos and press releases on what to expect. It seems that the 2016 trade show went off without a hitch and it goes without saying that consumers and the general public (including other tech industry professionals) were fascinated by what the upcoming year has to offer in terms of latest tech.

Some of the early latest tech announcements certainly impressed the Soteria Cloud team. These are just a small sample of what we have to look forward to:

  • Fitness technology was a prominent theme at this year’s CES. Several companies introduced new treadmills to the market with one particular company, Technogym, presenting a treadmill which is designed to play personalised music playlists according to the speed at which the individual is running. The IFit treadmill actually uses Google Maps data to create a visual and virtual sensation of running in just about any location. Now that’s impressive.
  • A Fridge that makes it possible to view the contents of the fridge without having to open the door.  Samsung presented their newest fridge to the market which offers a 21.5 inch high definition touch screen, which puts a whole new spin on keeping things cool.
  • Blink electronic skateboard – this skateboard is set to astound enthusiasts the world over. The board, which can travel at a speed of up to 19km per hour, is controlled by a handheld ‘remote’…or even a smartphone app.
  • Wearables that are considered ‘next level’. The smartshoe from Digitsole offers more than just a comfortable walking experience. Each shoe offers a step counter, built in toe warmer and a built in torch lamp. The only inconvenience to these smartshoes is that you’ll need to recharge them.
  • The SmartDeviceLink platform is sure to impress all those who encounter it in 2016. Toyota and Ford are certainly on the bandwagon with this one. The platform allows for a driver or user to connect to the vehicle’s dash board with a common smartphone app. This means that you, the driver, can choose which system you would prefer to use with the vehicle instead of manufacturers having to fit Google or Apple in-car alternatives.
  • Smart glasses are starting to stick! In fact, Kopin, a manufacturer based in Massachusetts presented what is considered the world’s smallest display for eyewear.
  • Pet care in a bowl is the latest technology for small animals. The Smart bowl, by Petnet, is designed to avoid over feeding of pets. By simply inputting the pet’s data such as type of pet, weight, age and similar, the bowl will advise when the correct amount has been poured into it.
